Nasty stuff. Anybody deal with removing it from coax ends for solder prep.
I have read of 2 solvents to remove it (expensive stuff, Hydrosol & D-Gel)
and I've heard of using Fast Orange, or Goo Gone.
anybody actually done it before? Recommendations?

Re: Icky Pick
I tried that el-cheapo envirofriendly brake cleaner, left residue.
I tried something a bit more, industrial (cough cough), got most of it off.
I'm not sure I got it all off or not. I know I wasn't trying to get solder ready quality from the cable I have because aluminum doesn't solder so well in my experience, so I was going for a clean mechanical connection. I know there isn't any water in the coax due to the goo. The center wire was copper or copper clad, no problem soldering. Didn't Mama ever tell you how to get pitch off yer hands? Might work in your situation... rubbing it in dirt and rubbing it off again.
Much to any real hams chagrin, I've been doing mechanical shield connection all along 'cuz I can't solder the braid through those holes without fucking it all up. So don't pay this CBer any mind, I'm not doing it right. But I do know my way around a roll of super 33...
