Chasing the Rabbit hole

#1

Post by KD8DEY »

After fucking around with that coax from Universal. I've decided to chase around the Rabbit hole again.

The Coax checks out DC wise, but is fucked at RF...
It was suggested that either the coax has water in it ( Which it shouldnt unless Universal fucked me with somebody else's return, and I inherited their problem).

Or that the PL-259's were a little on the loose side,...

Didn't want to (Had other plans for the Bucks),..
But I went ahead and ordered 50 feet of unterminated Belden RG-8x from RFParts.
Should get it Wednesday.

I also ordered a few sets of the newer Clamp/Solder connectors made specifically for RG-8x, LMR-240 type coax. Those will probably take a few weeks, since they are from AliExpress...

I will either end up with a couple good coax assemblies, or at least 1 if I got fucked on the first one from universal. 50 feet is a little long for what I need, but I can always make a couple jumpers....
see what happens from here...
Not gonna mess with it in the cold/mud/snow, So I'll be playing with it as the weather permits (Dry in the mid 40's)
CQ 40....
Is it just me, or does "Googling Yourself" just not sound right?..

The Genuine Belden RG-8x came today via fedUp. Now I gotta wait forever for the connectors...

I think I've got some, they're yours if you want them.

I've got a half dozen of the Clamp style coming. They should work out really good as long as I can see well enough to do it. Need Real daylight. Bulbs just dont seem to do it....

Instead of crimping the coax shield, there are 3 "Washers" ( one nippled) and a compression sleeve. you only have to solder the tip. the compression sleeve should keep any strain off the shield, and presses the nippled washer into the other one, sandwiching the shield between the 2, and making the connection.

according to tracking, they made it to the airport. Probably get them next week. They are available for RG-58, GR-8x/LMR-240, Or RG-213/LMR-400 sized coax,
