It's been 2 Years (Is the Jury still out?)

#1

Post by Bubbathegimp »

Just recently received the Discount offer in my E-Mail to buy a copy of Ham Radio Deluxe,
And I was wondering about the final verdict / opinions regarding the Great HRD/N2SUB/Blacklisting controversy...

Thoughts?

I can't believe it's been 2 years already, where did the time friggin go?

I'm not really sure what to think about that whole thing. It seemed pretty disingenuous what happened and I'm not sure what to think about how it was handled. However if I was in the market for the software I would consider it. Maybe when the time comes to upgrade my setup...

I dunno. I'm not a HRD user, but I haven't seen any or heard of any complaints since the company cleaned up it's act.

I hope thats a good sign, and not from being heavy handed along with all the threats of impending lawsuits that were flying around...

Didn't the previous owner get the bum's rush? I'd hope that the rest of the company learned a few lessons from that fiasco.

I know that the last free version (5.24.38) was supposed to remain available (But that didn't happen)..
Anybody that made it available on their sites were threatened with litigation...
You would think that would be breaking the contract if it was specified in the agreement. The original Author (Simon) might have legal grounds??!!... I dunno...
(I didn't spend the night at a Holiday Inn)

I've been trying to slowly save up enough to get another radio so I can get back on the air, since I can't really see well enough to play with fixing the NCX-3 that was so graciously given to me (Unfortunately damaged in shipping)..

I'm still waiting for my new insurance cards to come in the mail for my new provider, Which kicks in January. Hopefully I will get my eyes done in a couple of months.
I still have my copy of the old version of HRD, but I have been looking at the "Competitor"...
There have only been a handful of reviews of HRD on Eham since the Fiasco, but they have all been positive so far.
not sure what to think about that....Sinking ship?? If they close shop after I was to buy a copy, would it be rendered useless??!!
or what If I bought a copy before actually using it, and then couldn't register??...

Doesn't look as highly polished as HRD (More like a throwback from the 90's (Win 95/98 era), BUT if it does everything I need, (And comes with 3 years of free updates)....

Dunno how it does as far as allowing you to integrate other packages to do Digital though. I know that the old version of HRD let you assign a button to launch an external program...Since I don't have anything yet to try it with , I don't wanna waste the allotted demo time to play with it...
